Four Seasons Casa Medina And Bogotá – Luxury Colombia Hotels

Four Seasons Bogota

Bogotá, Colombia, a vibrant capital city, boasts world-class museums, quality shopping, irresistible dining, and a buzzing art scene. An urban oasis so special, Four Seasons opened not one, but two impressive luxury hotels set within Bogotá’s best areas.

Four Seasons Casa Medina

Background

First of the two to open (2015), Casa Medina is a landmark 1946 building, declared a monument by the country’s Ministry of Culture. The property was originally constructed as apartments by Colombian artist-architect Santiago Medina Mejia. His exquisite design incorporated pieces of demolished convents, including stone columns and hand-carved doors. By 1988, the residence became Hotel Casa Medina, and overtime the known meeting place of the city’s elite and high society’s choice of stay.

In becoming a Four Seasons hotel, architect Milena Vargas led restoration and enhanced the original architectural details. Lauren Rottet, a highly accomplished interior designer, curated a collection of stylish décor and traditional and contemporary artwork.

As I admired the trunk-inspired tables, and leather chesterfield lounges, I found the hand-crafted wooden furnishings to be most fascinating, as they ensure no two rooms are alike. Talk about distinctly unique. If you’re wanting the best in rest and relaxation, I highly recommend staying in an elegant suite with a wood-burning fireplace. It truly creates a warm and intimate setting, perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway.

Atmosphere

A masterpiece in itself, Casa Medina never ceases to arouse your curiosity. Every corner is full of history and fine design, from winding wood staircases to stained glass windows, there’s beauty to discover in every detail. One of the hotel’s most charming allures is its dreamy courtyard. The appeal comes from Spanish tile floors, lush landscape and a stone fireplace to gather by in cool evenings.

Restaurants and Bar

When based in a city known as the gastronomic capital, restaurants have no choice but to bring their A-game, and Four Seasons did not disappoint. Introducing, Castanyoles Raciones y Tapas, an open concept restaurant and tapas bar designed by architect Saul Sasson. Whether you prefer to sip Colombian coffee street-side, or eat tapas within a glass atrium, the choice is yours to enjoy.

Executive Chef Pablo Peñalosa and Four Seasons veteran Chef Lucas Curcio, offer Spanish-influenced cuisine that entice the senses. Come evening, opt-in for a sweet treat and sangria. I recommend the La Santo and signature churros with Colombian chocolate.

Neighborhood

Four Seasons Casa Medina is conveniently located between downtown and the city’s upscale North Zone. As you draw near the hotel you’ll find yourself in a residential neighborhood lined with English-style homes and exposed brick buildings. The property is steps from the financial district and buzzing Zona G (as in gourmet), an upscale, dining hot spot, featuring delectable options for every taste.

Background

Slightly newer to the scene, Four Seasons Bogota opened in Spring 2016. Like its sibling, Four Seasons Casa Medina, the property was exquisitely transformed by architect Milena Vargas and designer Lauren Rottet. The Hotel boasts Colombia’s best spa and a total of 64 rooms, all designed to the nines.

Atmosphere

As you enter the lobby you’ll find modern, sophisticated interiors, featuring plush green sofas inspired by Colombia’s emeralds. Here, in early mornings, are business travelers reading e-mails and catching up on the latest in El Tiempo (a Colombian newspaper).

Rooms

We stayed in a spacious one-bedroom suite that exudes contemporary glamour. Its living area features bright cushions, fresh fruit, and the Colombian mountains captured in the artwork. What I appreciate most are the local touches throughout the hotel, as many furnishings, finishes and artwork were handmade by Colombian artists.

Restaurants and Bar

Due to time constraints, we chose to order breakfast in bed both mornings. However, they do offer breakfast in the elegantly styled restaurant, La Biblioteca, located just next to the lobby. Later in the evening, we enjoyed a few late-night bites by the bar, like pulpo (octopus) tacos and Green Basil cocktails.

Unfortunately, were unable to dine at the Hotel’s signature restaurant, NEMO, due to its closure during the pandemic. All the more reason to return as a new dining concept is excitingly in the works.

Neighborhood

Four Seasons Bogotá is located in a top notch location called Zona Rosa. The lively atmosphere really pulls you in, so we made sure to explore both day and night. Here, you will discover the city’s best in shopping, dining, and nightlife.

Extraordinary Experiences

I highly suggest connecting with the Four Seasons team to assist with your itinerary planning. We went on a private coffee tour with a horseback riding adventure, and an exclusive shopping experience in which we met with some of Colombia’s best designers. No matter your interests, Four Seasons has an array of amazing experiences waiting to be had.
